Meet the Teachers

What our parents have to say

"I wish I was 4 and could go to such a school! I do not know how teachers do such magic of having 14, 4-year old kids to discuss quietly and respectfully their ideas, interests and dreams!"

"Jakki and Mary, the teachers at Bright Prospects, are amazingly skilled early childhood practitioners. To effectively teach young children, one needs to perfectly marry understanding of the science of early childhood development with the art of instructional delivery within the context of a warm, nurturing and supportive environment. In my years as an early childhood researcher, I have not seen teachers who achieve this as well as Jakki and Mary. In their classroom, all children are empowered to use their natural curiosity and enthusiasm to not only discover new things about the world, but also new things about themselves. I see them do all this with the calmness and ease of teachers who are not only very experienced but also incredibly prepared for each day and its lessons. I wish all children had the opportunity to have a preschool experience of this quality."

Teacher Jakki

Jakki Kydd-Fidelman started as an assistant teacher at Bright Prospects in 1991 while the youngest of her four children were still attending the school. Her background was in engineering; just out of college she set up the first Proex photography laboratory. Once she gained certification in early childhood education, she quickly moved into the position of full teacher. Jakki brings a love of the outdoors and a background in art and theater to her teaching. She is a certified scuba diver and has led outdoor adventures for 20 years. She raises turtles, lizards, snakes, pheasants, chickens, quail and various other animals. She has also raised mallard ducks for the Department of Natural Resources. She has taught art for 10 years, and directed children's plays for 5 years. In addition to teaching at BPCP, Jakki also works at Pratt School in Minneapolis , running the after-school program, coordinating the service learning program, and coordinating their AAA grant, and the SPCO Connect and MIA Art Adventure programs.
