Our Philosophy

Playing, learning, community building. Bright Prospects Cooperative Preschool (BPCP), founded in 1948, is one of the oldest continuously running cooperative preschools in the nation. Our passionate teachers and parents strive to ensure that each child has a positive introduction to the classroom environment. We nurture the natural ability of children to be thoughtful, motivated, and self-reliant individuals.

“I believe that the school must represent present life — life as real and vital to the child as that which he carries on in the home, in the neighborhood, or on the playground.”

— John Dewey, psychologist, philosopher, and educational reformist

Our Program

Throughout our school day, we strive to create real-life experiences. For the child: the opportunity for conflict and conflict resolution, independent social interaction, child-centered exploration of their environment and imaginative play, verbal self-expression, the chance to exert independence in daily activities, and the opportunity to make and learn from mistakes and to overcome challenges. We weave these experiences into our daily activities and curriculum to help every child grow and flourish.

Our Community

BPCP is a cooperative preschool which gives parents and caregivers the unique opportunity to play an engaging role in their child’s preschool experience. Community is developed through activities such as school events, plays, and art shows that happen throughout the school year. There are also membership meetings and committee work that encourages conversation among families. It can be extremely rewarding to be a part of a cooperative preschool community.
